Inspired by parents who fought for civil rights, HACC exec spearheads quest for equity and access

During Black History month and beyond, PennLive is paying tribute to the people who are helping shape what will some day be the history of the Black community in Central Pennsylvania.

These are people who are examples of excellence, who inspire those around them for the work they do, the art they create, or the causes for which they fight.

This is one in an ongoing series of profiles that will be featured this month on PennLive and in The Patriot-News.

It was her parents’ legacy as civil rights activists that Dr. Armenta Hinton said led her down the path of advocating for diversity, equity, inclusion and access for marginalized communities.

Now, she’s using what her parents taught her in her work as vice president of inclusion, diversity and belonging at Harrisburg Area Community College. That includes overseeing the HAAC community’s compliance with Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
